SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City
Rating (P)
They say that chocolate is closely associated with Valentine’s because it is said to arouse feelings of happiness, love and passion. If you don’t believe me, then visit Chocolat at the Mall of Asia. Just the sight of the chocolate cakes at the display window is sure to make any one feel giddy! There are several varieties of chocolate cakes on offer there, such as Choco Caramel (P70/slice), Kahlua (P60/slice) and Choco Carrot (P65/slice). You can get them by the slice. But if you and your date just happened to have a heartier appetite, you can opt for the mini cake version.
Of the several that I’ve sampled there, two stood out—the Deep Dark Classic (P55/slice) and Death by Tablea (P75/slice). The former features a moist chocolate sponge cake with rich, velvety-smooth fudge icing. Both cake and icing were sweet without being cloying. While the latter has the same chocolate cake base, except that it’s topped with chocolate sprinkles and the cocoa icing has a more pronounced bittersweet flavor.
The bakery also served a selection of drinks made with cocoa tablea from Davao, such as the Spanish Hot Chocolate (P55). If you prefer something cold, try the frozen hot chocolate (P115), where the tablea is blended with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream.
Chocolat’s seating capacity is limited, so if the place is packed, just buy some cake then walk with your date to the back of the mall to catch the sunset.
